A Year of Growth With More To Come

In March, DMAI announced it will rebrand to Destinations International, effective in July. Why rebrand now?

Having run DMOs in Seattle, Indianapolis and Chicago, I had always questioned that the organization referred to itself as Destination Marketing Association International. I always felt as though if you look at the destinations, the destinations are the keepers and developers of their brands. They are the marketers for their destinations. I had always taken an exception to the overall mission of the organization. That does not diminish the responsibility of us being a “marketing” organization. But from a simplistic standpoint, our destinations are the marketers. It became apparent to me that we are our members’ trade organization. I think that was really somewhat of a philosophical shift.
